Parsons First-Year Fashion Studio Project

For this course, we had to select an object to guide our work throughout the semester. I chose a Guardian Angel medallion. This was gifted to me as a baby as a symbol of protection and hangs by my bedside. This is a common tradition in Cuban culture, and this protective talisman has been with me for the last 19 years. I also brought it with me to college. Though I no longer practice any religion, I continue to find comfort in this object, as it also represents my family's love. I wanted to create a vessel for this medallion to create a work that evokes a sense of protecting the object, the same way it has protected me. This inspiration continued in my materiality research, as well as my final garment, creating a thematic and aesthetic through line for this project
